Measures Shannon entropy of Bitcoin age distribution across HODL waves, revealing order-chaos transitions. Second derivative acceleration captures rapid shifts in holder behavior patterns.
The Bitcoin UTXO Entropy Cascade measures the Shannon entropy of Bitcoin's coin-age distribution across its HODL wave bands, treating the share of supply held in each age cohort as a probability distribution. When supply is spread evenly across many age bands, entropy is high, signaling a disordered, chaotic holder base; when supply concentrates into a few bands, entropy falls, signaling order. Tracking this entropy over time exposes the order-chaos transitions that accompany major shifts in aggregate holder behavior.
The cascade view goes a step further by taking the second derivative of the entropy series, which measures acceleration rather than level. This overlay highlights the moments when holder behavior is changing fastest: sharp positive or negative spikes mark rapid reorganizations of the age distribution, while a flat second derivative indicates the HODL wave structure is evolving steadily. Read the entropy line for the current regime and watch the acceleration overlay for the inflection points where that regime is breaking.
Use the UTXO Entropy Cascade to time behavioral turning points rather than price levels directly. Because the metric captures how coins are redistributing across age cohorts, abrupt entropy acceleration often precedes shifts in Bitcoin's trend as long-dormant supply awakens or newly acquired supply matures into stronger hands.
Check the selected asset, units, and cohort before comparing readings. Compare the metric over consistent dates and use related measures to understand what contributes to a change.
Addresses and on-chain cohorts do not identify individual people. Network designs and available histories differ, so a threshold observed on one asset may not transfer to another.
