On-Chain Metrics
Standardized SOPR metric that identifies extreme market conditions by measuring how many standard deviations the current SOPR is from its historical mean. Includes both traditional cumulative and rolling window methods for enhanced analysis.
The Bitcoin SOPR Z-Score standardizes the Spent Output Profit Ratio by measuring how many standard deviations the current SOPR sits from its historical mean. SOPR itself tracks whether coins moving on-chain are being spent in aggregate profit or loss; the Z-Score transformation strips out the raw metric's noise and centers it, so a reading of zero means SOPR is exactly at its long-run average. The chart computes this using both a traditional cumulative method, which references the full history, and a rolling window method, which adapts to more recent market behavior.
Read the Z-Score by its distance from zero rather than its absolute level. Positive values indicate SOPR is running above its historical mean, meaning Bitcoin holders are realizing more profit than usual, while negative values indicate loss-realization that is unusual relative to the past. The further a reading extends into either territory, the more standard deviations it represents, flagging increasingly stretched conditions. Comparing the cumulative and rolling series shows whether an extreme is unusual against all of Bitcoin's history or only against the recent regime.
Use the Z-Score to identify extreme market conditions that the raw SOPR line tends to obscure. Large positive excursions cluster around periods of heavy profit-taking, and deep negative excursions around capitulation, making the standardized view useful for spotting when sentiment has moved far from its statistical baseline.
Check the selected asset, units, and cohort before comparing readings. Compare the metric over consistent dates and use related measures to understand what contributes to a change.
Addresses and on-chain cohorts do not identify individual people. Network designs and available histories differ, so a threshold observed on one asset may not transfer to another.
